Bobby B. DuBose was elected to the Fort Lauderdale City Commission District III seat on March 10, 2009. Commissioner DuBose was appointed Vice Mayor on April 5, 2011 where he served for a year. He was re-elected unopposed on November 22, 2011 for a second three-year term.
Bobby DuBose is a native son of Fort Lauderdale and resides in the first neighborhood he called home, Dorsey Riverbend.

Biographical Information
Commissioner DuBose received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Florida. After graduation, Commissioner DuBose returned to his hometown neighborhood where he learned the true meaning of “to whom much is given, much is required.” Commissioner DuBose believes strongly in community service and has volunteered his time serving many civic organizations such as the NAACP (life member) and president of the Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi for three consecutive terms where he is also a life member.
Since his election to the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, Commissioner DuBose was appointed as the City representative to the Broward County Planning Council, the Tourist Development Council Board, the Florida League of Cities’ Growth Management & Transportation Committee and the Broward League of Cities where he currently serves as 1st Vice President. In May 2012, he will be installed as the League President. In addition, Commissioner DuBose is a member of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and served as regional coordinator for the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials.
Commissioner DuBose has received several honors including being named as one of South Florida's 50 Most Powerful Black Professionals of 2011 by Legacy Magazine, as one of the recipients of the 2011 Ordinary People Doing Extra Ordinary Things by the Friends of Library, as one of Gold Coast Magazine’s, “40 under 40” Broward County Rising Stars, and Broward Young Democrats – Young Democrat of the Year. In 2011, the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Centennial Year, Vice Mayor DuBose was privileged to serve as Grand Marshall for the Sistrunk Historical Festival and Parade and proudly presided over the City’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Beach Wade-Ins and the grand opening of the Eula Johnson House.
Commissioner DuBose is self-employed in the insurance industry and also operates his own company, DuBose Ventures. He is a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, is married to the former Yvette Culver and is the proud father of Ethan Joshua. |
