Centennial LogoFort Lauderdale - The Centennial Celebration Committee was recently established by the City Commission to commemorate Fort Lauderdale’s 100th Anniversary in 2011. This advisory committee will help the City plan events and activities that celebrate Fort Lauderdale’s past, present and future.

Chaired by former Mayor and U.S. Congressman E. Clay Shaw, the Committee is comprised of 15 Fort Lauderdale residents with ties to the local business, historical, educational and cultural communities. Committee members will draw on their diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise to plan an inclusive commemoration that appeals to residents, businesses and visitors.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler is grateful that Mr. Shaw has volunteered his time to serve on the Centennial Committee, “Congressman Shaw has selflessly dedicated years of service to improving our community. We’re fortunate that he has agreed to continue giving back by spearheading the planning for the Centennial celebration.”

Still in the early planning stages, Mayor Seiler is very pleased with the Committee’s work to date, “We are thankful for the hard work and dedication of the Committee members. Their ongoing commitment will be an integral part of creating an exciting celebration for the entire City.”

The Committee is in the process of working with the City Commission to develop a strategy to solicit input from residents, businesses and local organizations. By involving the public as early as possible, the City hopes to build on the momentum surrounding the Centennial and provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to be part of the planning process and become invested in the Centennial events and activities.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the Centennial by providing input at a Centennial Celebration Committee meeting. They can also get involved now by sending an e-mail to centennial@fortlauderdale.gov.
